Fiana Toibin, #24HrDub actor, hopes there’s a Charleston in her future

Fiana Toibin by City Headshots Dublin

Fiana Toibin was a member of Dublin Youth Theatre in the 1980s and she has certainly spread the good name of the organisation since. She has performed on Broadway, had roles in TV hits like The Sopranos, Law and Order and most recently Boardwalk Empire.

We asked Fiana to introduce herself, “I’m an actor, a DYT member (in the 80s) a Dubliner, a New Yorker, a foodie, a mammy and a film buff.”

Fiana told us that this was her first time to get involved in The 24 Hour Plays in aid of Dublin Youth Theatre supported by BNP Paribas Real Estate. She said,  “I can’t wait to see what the playwrights come up with in such a short time.” No pressure, like, from the woman who has worked with David Chase. (Who the #24HrDub production team met on the stage of the Abbey back while prepping back in 2015. True story.)

Asked if she were the one writing the play what element she would include, Fiana replied, “I think I’d set it in the 1920’s just for the great clothes.  Maybe throw in a Charleston for fun.” Yes we could get with that!

With Dublin Youth Theatre hitting the milestone age of 40 this year we asked our #24HrDub participants what the most important life lesson they have learnt along the way. Fiana sagely responded, “Age is just a number. Now is what matters for tomorrow we ….. who knows.” Well let’s hope on Saturday 28th January we will all KNOW that 6 plays WILL happen!

And finally we wondered how Fiana had managed the old showbiz adage “Never work with children or animals”. She said that she had worked with the former and the experience was “Awesome: you never really know what they’ll do next.”
