Stefanie Preissner is no stranger to The 24 Hour Plays in aid of Dublin Youth Theatre supported by BNP Paribas Real Estate. Stefanie is in the unique position of having acted (2013), written (2014) and now she’ll be cracking the whip as a director in 2017.
Stefanie is on the Twitter and had a big hit toward the end of 2016 as creator of Can’t Cope/Won’t Cope which starred #24HrDub 2017 newbie Seána Kerslake. Will we see them paired up again at The 24 Hour Plays: Dublin? It’s all to play for in the casting room at about midnight next Saturday!
Stefanie is described as The Voice of Her Generation but is quick to point out that it’s a generation of people who resent having someone as their voice.
Having had a shot at most roles on The 24 Hour Plays we wondered which role was most difficult between the acting and writing that she has done to date, “Writing was definitely the hardest!” she says, “Bloodshot eyes and too much coffee.” We’ll report back on Facebook, Twitter or Snapchat (the24hrplaysdub) and get her to tell us how the directing compares. (Jeez she should try producing! *Eyeroll*)
We like to remind our participants that they’re doing it for the young people by forcing them to dredge up memories of their teenage selves. We asked Stefanie what about her adult self would most surprise her teenage self and she reckons “not having a mortgage or a pension yet.”
While we were being all serious (well not having a mortgage or pension is either serious or bloody hilarious!) we wondered if Stefanie could change one thing about Ireland what would it be. Thinking for a moment, Stefanie replied, “Give everyone access to the services they need, when they need them, where they need them without obstacles.” Here at #24HrDub we take away the obstacle of an onerous three week rehearsal schedule 🙂
Finally to lighten the mood a little we wondered if Stefanie has a preference for Period or Sci-fi; “Neither. I wanna keep it real.” YEAH!
