The 24 Hour Plays were first presented in Ireland in February 2012, at Project Arts Centre. The show moved to its new home at the Abbey Theatre in 2013, and preparations are currently under way for the 5th annual presentation on Sunday, 31st January 2016.

Run in partnership with the 24 Hour Play Company, New York, and presented at the Abbey Theatre, The 24 Hour Plays is a one-night-only theatrical experience wherein six short plays are written, rehearsed, and presented within 24 hours.
It’s a never-to-be-repeated, blink-and-you-miss-it event and, now in its 5th year, is a highlight of the Irish theatre calendar.
Over 60 theatre artists are involved in bringing The 24 Hour Plays to the stage, including 6 playwrights, 6 directors, 26 actors, and over 20 backstage crew, designers, and producers. Everyone involved lends their time and talent on a voluntary basis, with all profits going directly to Dublin Youth Theatre.
Everyone involved in The 24 Hour Plays volunteers their time and talent for Dublin Youth Theatre. Producers, directors, playwrights, actors, production assistants, designers, and stage managers give hours, days and, in some cases, months of work to put this show together to raise money for Dublin Youth Theatre.
The 24 Hour Plays is supported by our wonderful partnering organisations, including: The Abbey Theatre, Dublin City Council Arts Office, Dublin Fringe, HP Ireland, Grehans Printers, Micromedia and many more sponsors who help cover the costs of production, ensuring the maximum profit for Dublin Youth Theatre.

The 24 Hour Plays Company

The 24 Hour Company, New York

The 24 Hour Plays® is a long-running institution in New York and international theater, but its work is always fresh and new. Inspired by Scott McCloud’s 24 Hour Comics, creator Tina Fallon intended The 24 Hour Plays® to be a one-time-only event when it debuted on Manhattan’s Lower East Side in 1995

Eighteen years and thousands of plays and musicals later, The 24 Hour Company produces theses time limited events, including “The 24 Hour Musicals”, on Broadway and in cities all over the world. In New York, London, Los Angeles, Chicago, Florence, Dublin, and Athens, theater icons and newcomers alike regularly participate in what insiders call “the 2-4.”
Through collaborations with organizations like London’s The Old Vic, The Del Sole Foundation, Dublin Youth Theatre and Urban Arts Partnership, The 24 Hour Company also produces celebrity benefits that have raised millions of dollars for a variety of worthy causes. In 1997, The 24 Hour Company began licensing its trademark The 24 Hour Plays® along with the process, production handbook and other materials to select charitable and educational groups. Licensed affiliates have produced their own versions of it in regional and professional theaters, colleges, and universities just about everywhere you can find a curtain and a stage.
The 24 Hour Company’s “The 24 Hour Musicals” were launched at Joe’s Pub in 2009, and recently enjoyed their first international production at The Old Vic in London. 24 x 24: The 24 Hour Plays Anthology was published by Playscripts, Inc. in 2009. In 2013, the documentary One Night Stand about the 24 Hour Musicals – featuring Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Rachel Dratch, Richard Kind and Cheyenne Jackson – premiered on hundreds of screens nationwide.
